Lost toddler is reunited with mom after 6 days in a station

CHIAYI, Taiwan -- A 2-year-old toddler in Chiayi was reunited with her mother Saturday after being looked after by policemen in a police station for six days.

Tears rolling down her small face as she was hugged by her mother.

The single mother, surnamed Liu, claimed that she did not intentionally abandon her infant daughter.

She explained that her child got lost while she went off to get some change to play a UFO catcher game with her.

Liu did not report her daughter's disappearance to the police for the entire week as she was concerned about her unmarried status, which she had kept secret from her family.

An official of the Department of Social Affairs said the department will provide financial assistance to the mother to raise her daughter.
