Renovated library aims to boost reading in Changhua

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Changhua County in central Taiwan is hoping that a renovated library that opened May 10 will encourage residents to read more.

The renovated library in Tianwei Township comprises four floors, with designated reading areas for senior citizens, teenagers and children, said Changhua Deputy County Commissioner Lin Tien-fu at the opening ceremony.

It has always been one of the county's priorities to promote public reading, he said.

Since 2010, Lin said, the county has stocked more than 400,000 new books at a cost of NT$80 million (US$2.6 million) with the aim of boosting people's interest in reading, Lin said. The library renovation project took about a year and a half, Lin said at the ceremony, which was also attended by Tianwei Township Chief Chuang Jen-shun and county councilor Liu Shu-fang.
