Changhua reports second lowest jobless rate in ROC

TAIPEI -- Unemployment in Changhua County fell in 2013 to 4 percent, the second lowest in the country, thanks to a series of successful employment service programs for job seekers, the county government reported yesterday.

The jobless rate in the central Taiwan county was 0.2 percentage points lower than in 2012, it said.

The county government will continue working to boost employment by keeping abreast of the latest developments in the job market and launching various employment services and vocational training programs, a spokesman said.

Citing central government statistics, he said Changhua's 4 percent unemployment rate was not only lower than the national average of 4.2 percent in 2013 but also ranked as the second lowest in the country.

In an effort to help local residents find employment, the county government last year held four large, four medium-sized, and 24 small job fairs, according to the spokesman.
