TAIPEI -- Changhua County showcased its rich agricultural tradition during its New Year's celebration, distributing hot milk and puffed rice cakes to over 25,000 people attending an overnight bash to usher in 2014.
The New Year's party, held by the county government late Tuesday and into the early hours of Wednesday morning, featured popular Taiwanese singers Huang Hsi-tien and Huang Ssu-ting to keep the crowd entertained but also agricultural treats the county takes pride in.
Changhua County Magistrate Cho Po-yuan said that because agriculture, and especially dairy farming, is one of the county's strengths, it was only natural for Changhua to celebrate the occasion with free hot milk and the traditional crispy snack made from puffed rice.
Outlining his goals for the coming year, Cho said initiatives will be taken to establish a public bike rental network, an elevated railway system and hot spring facilities in the central Taiwan county.
