Changhua announces top 10 gifts from online vote

TAIPEI -- Online voters have chosen the top 10 gift items from the central county of Changhua, eight of which are edible.

Changhua Magistrate Cho Po-yuan said it was a close competition to choose the 10 items most representative of the county, with winners including fruit wine, essence of chicken and taro cake, all local specialties.

Cho said he hopes the online poll, now in its fifth year, can inspire more products unique to Changhua.

Another popular choice was a type of glutinous rice noodles, dubbed “wrinkled face noodles,” developed in a community of Puyan Township. The town produces one quarter of Taiwan's glutinous rice and the community has used local glutinous rice and flour as ingredients to produce this special product.

The two non-edible items are a cutting board made of break-resistant tempered glass that is not prone to bacteria or fungus, and a specialty incense.
