Delegation from Japan visits Changhua County

After tasting dragon fruits that Changhua County recently began selling to the Japanese prefecture, Murai gave a thumbs-up, repeatedly saying Taiwan's fruits were delicious.

The delegation comprised a total of 13 members from the prefecture's fishery, commerce and tourism sectors.

Cho said he was grateful to Governor Murai for his assistance in helping to boost the county's exports of dragon fruits to the Japanese prefecture, adding that following the successful experience in exporting dragon fruits, Changhua anticipates it will sell more high quality fruits to Miyagi in the future.

Miyagi Prefecture, located in the Tohoku region on Honshu Island, has a population of 2.3 million and is known to have rich fishery and tourism resources.

Matsushima, a group of islands known for their scenic beauty and ranked as one of the Three Views of Japan, is located in the prefecture.

Cho said tourism is one of the most important industries in Miyagi Prefecture, which has tried hard to make itself as green as possible. Forests account for 57 percent of the prefecture's total area.

He said Changhua County has a lot to learn from Miyagi for its efforts in developing tourism.

For his part, Murai said Miyagi Prefecture's four seasons are quite different with each season showing its own unique landscape, adding that the beautiful views and its rich hot springs attracts about 30,000 Taiwanese tourists each year.

Murai added that he hopes his prefecture and Changhua County will increase exchanges in tourism and agricultural development.
