Couple paid NT$1.9 mil. in coins for property

CHANGHUA, Taiwan -- A couple was paid NT$1.9 million in coins after a conflict over a property transaction. The buyer paid the sum with 38,000 NT$50 coins placed in 19 bags that weigh 300kg in total.

“The land is already under his name,” the old man said. “We have no choice but to accept it. Next time I will have to state 'no coins are accepted' in the contract.”

The old couple, living in Changhua, did not know what to do with the coins and asked the police for help. The police helped them to move the 19 bags of coins to the bank. Tellers spent six hours counting the 38,000 coins.
