Dog bites Taipower reader, owner indicted

CHANGHUA, Taiwan -- A Taiwan Power Company staff, surname Lai, was bitten by a black dog as he took meter readings. The owner of the dog, surnamed Chou, was accused of accidental infliction of injury yesterday by the Changhua District Prosecutors Office.

The prosecutor said Lai went to Chou's home in Tienwei Township, in Changhua, to take the meter reading on Oct. 5 last year. Chou's dog ran towards Lai, broke the chain on its neck, and bit Lai on the arm and fingers. Lai accused Chou of not trapping the dog in a cage or putting a mask on it, and he sought help from the prosecutors' office.
