Officials disinfect Changhua chicken farm on H5N2 outbreak

CHANGHUA, Taiwan -- Quarantine authorities yesterday disinfected a Changhua County chicken farm found to have been infected by the H5N2 bird flu virus, the Central News Agency reported.

Of its 49,000 chickens, 7,000 have been killed by the virus, officials from the county government were cited as saying.

The farm in Fanyuan Village is now under control to prevent its remaining chickens from being shipped out, the officials said.

About 120 other chicken farms in the neighborhood have also been examined, but none of them have been infected by the virus, the officials added.
