Updated Tuesday, November 17, 2009 9:36 am TWN, The China Post news staff Election-related violence in Changhua CountyOne of the incidents reportedly happened in Dacun Township early Sunday, where a local campaign worker was stabbed five times by three or four suspects. The victim, Lai Yau-de , was recently seen rallying for candidates for the Dacun Township Chief and Changhua County councilor positions. Lai only recalled that his assailants shouted, “You are a show-off huh?” and then he fell and lost consciousness. He remains in stable condition at a local hospital after receiving over 30 stitches and a blood transfusion. Police have already launched a search for the suspects. Another event took place at Dutou Township (§uAY?m) on Sunday night, where an unnamed individual was badly beaten by a local campaign worker for a county councilor candidate. Police reported the campaign worker was attempting to seek support from local neighborhoods, and allegedly beat a man who refused to show support. The Changhua District Prosecutors Office has begun a formal investigation on the case. These are not the first election-related violence in Changhua County. Earlier this year in August, a female candidate surnamed Hung, running for the Changhua County councilor position, was reported to have become a victim of sex extortion in an attempt to force her to pull out of the election.
