Chow Mei-ching meets with Showa University president on Tokyo trip

TOKYO -- Taiwan's first lady Chow Mei-ching visited Showa Women's University in Tokyo Sunday, where she attended a national children's choral festival and met with the well known university's president.

Chow presented Showa President Mariko Bando with a replica of the Jadeite Cabbage, one of the most prized items of imperial Chinese artwork housed at Taiwan's National Palace Museum.

Calling the replica a world-class treasure, Bando said she will proudly put the gift in a most noticeable spot in her office.

Chow flew to Tokyo July 31 to visit as the honorary leader of the Vox Nativa children's choir, made up of indigenous children from across Taiwan. On Sunday, the choir gave a performance in the choral festival at Showa Women's University.

Vox Nativa was the only foreign group to join in the event, which brought a total 14 other singing groups from across Japan.
