President Ma returns home from Central America visit

TAIPEI -- President Ma Ying-jeou landed at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport late Saturday night after wrapping up his visit of two nations in Central America.

Ma's visit brought him to Panama for the inauguration of President Juan Carlos Varela and to El Salvador, both diplomatic allies of Taiwan.

In El Salvador, Ma signed a joint communique with the country's president, Salvador Sanchez Ceren.

Ma called the trip, which started last Sunday, “fruitful.”

He noted that he had a good amount of time to speak with the leaders of Taiwan's allies and other government officials.

They gave a positive response to Taiwan's flexible diplomacy policy and indicated they wanted to increase two-way cooperation in trade and investment, Ma said.
