Taiwan passports ranked world's 22nd most useful

TAIPEI -- Republic of China passports are ranked the 22nd most useful in the world in terms of gaining visa-free access to other countries, according to, a U.K.-based site designed to help people move abroad.

The site said holders of ROC passports are granted visa waivers or visas upon arrival in 130 countries, similar to Vatican City and Antigua and Barbuda.

Data provided by the Taiwanese government, however, indicates that as of May 2014, ROC passport holders had gained visa-free or visa-upon-arrival treatment for travel to 140 countries worldwide.

In Asia, the passports of only five countries are more useful than Taiwan's: Japan (170 countries), Singapore (167 countries), South Korea (166 countries), Malaysia (163 countries) and Hong Kong (152 countries), according to MoveHub.
