TAIPEI -- Taiwan has downgraded its travel alert for Nicaragua to gray, the lowest level on the travel advisory system, as the situation in the Central American country has stabilized following a magnitude 6.2 earthquake earlier this month.
The country is no longer experiencing noticeable aftershocks, and public institutions and schools have reopened, according to Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign of Affairs.
Despite the downgrading of the travel alert, the ministry still urges Taiwanese nationals traveling to Nicaragua to pay attention to their surroundings.
The ministry raised its travel warning for Nicaragua to yellow April 16, days after the powerful earthquake reportedly left one dead and dozens injured as it toppled homes and set off a string of aftershocks.
