TAIPEI -- Robert Wang, U.S. senior official for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), is set to visit Taiwan this week to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said Wednesday.
During his five-day visit that begins Thursday, Wang will participate in an APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting, said the AIT, which represents U.S. interests in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic ties.
He will also meet with Taiwan officials and business leaders to discuss APEC-related issues and bilateral trade and investment cooperation, the AIT said.
Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Wang's visit and confirmed that he is scheduled to meet with President Ma Ying-jeou and call on officials at the ministries of foreign and economic affairs and the National Development Council.
Issues to be discussed include the trend toward regional economic integration and the prospects for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
