Senior US official to arrive in Taiwan today for 2-day visit

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Nerissa J. Cook is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan today on a two-day trip, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announced yesterday.
Cook will be in Taiwan to participate in meetings pertaining to international economic and development issues, an AIT statement said. AIT represents U.S. interest in Taiwan in the absence of official bilateral ties.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday said it welcomes Cook's upcoming visit.
Cook is a member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service and has been serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs since October 2010.
She specializes in national security, global issues, and emerging democracies. Her current portfolio covers United Nations technical agencies, multilateral economic and development issues, and UNESCO.
Prior to joining the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, Ms. Cook served as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
