Taipei to give Philippines more typhoon assistance

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's representative office in Manila will hand over more donations by Taiwanese individuals and businesses to the Philippines for relief and reconstruction in the wake of last year's Super Typhoon Haiyan, officials said yesterday.

At a ceremony later this year, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines will deliver some NT$22.38 million (US$738,513) in donations to the Philippine government, Taiwan's foreign affairs officials said.

Last year, public and private donors in Taiwan gave more than NT$300 million (US$10.13 million) in supplies and other aid to the Philippines after the deadly typhoon struck Nov. 8, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
