International eco-product fair kicks off

TAIPEI--The 2014 Eco-products International Fair kicked off in Taipei Thursday, offering local companies a great chance to develop business links and secure orders from local and foreign buyers, according to an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

It is the first time the annual green fair has been held in Taiwan, said Tom Chou, director-general of MOFA's Department of International Organizations, at a regular news briefing.

Taiwan is organizing the event in conjunction with the non-profit Asian Productivity Organization (APO), which is aimed at contributing to the sustainable socioeconomic development of the Asia-Pacific region.

The four-day fair at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1 has 437 booths representing 207 companies, 41 of which are foreign, Chou said.

On Thursday evening, the ministries of foreign affairs and economic affairs will co-host a reception to welcome the local and foreign participants, including APO Secretary-General Mari Amano, he added.

The exhibition, aimed at promoting green products, technologies and services, will serve as a platform for possible business collaboration and joint ventures among regional and international industries and government bodies.
