MOFA lowers Toronto travel advisory to gray

TAIPEI -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday that it has downgraded a travel alert to the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario from yellow to gray, the lowest level of alert in its four-color code, with immediate effect.

The Canadian province of Ontario was hit by an ice storm last month, resulting in power outages for 350,000 households in the province and the Greater Toronto Area, as well as serious disruption of land and air traffic.

The ministry said that following urgent repair work, electricity services have resumed, but street cleaning might take another eight weeks to get fully underway.

Under MOFA's four-color travel advisory system, a red alert isthe highest level of warning, followed by orange, yellow and gray.

Although the travel alert has been downgraded, the ministry reminded people traveling there to be mindful of their personal safety.
