TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's over-the-counter (OTC) stock market plans to issue a credit card early next year, the first to be issued by any stock market in the world, a newspaper reported yesterday.
The GreTai Securities Market will issue the card in collaboration with the Huanan Commercial Bank as early as the first quarter of 2014, the United Evening News said.
GreTai's idea is to have OTC-listed companies in the consumer sector provide discounts for purchases made with the credit card, which will also be a form of promotion and advertising for these firms, the paper said.
Such OTC-listed companies include the Eslite bookstore chain, the Taiwan High-Speed Rail Corporation, a taxi company, a theme park, and some famous restaurants, the paper added.
