Sources from the APEC CEO Summit, which will be held on the Indonesian island of Bali in early October, said the organizer invited Terry Gou in the hope that he will share Hon Hai's investment experience in the region.
The sources said Gou's presence is expected to encourage more Taiwanese businesses to invest in Indonesia.
Hon Hai, the world's largest contract electronics maker, confirmed that the company has received the invitation and that Gou is expected to attend.
Hon Hai said it will be the first time Gou has attended an APEC CEO summit.
The summit is part of the annual APEC summit, which will be attended by a Taiwanese delegation headed by former Vice President Vincent Siew on behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou.
The 2013 APEC summit will feature three major themes — the Attainment of the Bogor Goal, the Achievement of Sustainable Growth with Equality, and the Promotion of Connectivity.
Taiwan is one of the 21 APEC member economies. The economic bloc accounts for about 55 percent of the world's gross domestic product and some 44 percent of global trade.
According to Tsai Yun-chung, head of the economic affairs division of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia, the attendance by leaders of large-sized Taiwanese enterprises such as Hon Hai shows that the local business sector is paying more attention to the Indonesian market than ever before.
Hon Hai has plans to invest US$10 billion in Indonesia over the next five years to set up a production base for electronic devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, but the details have not been finalized.
