Democrats Abroad is treated within the U.S. Democratic Party as if it were a state party organization, allowing it to send delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, this past September. It also has seats on the Democratic National Committee. The committee, headed by Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, runs the Democratic Party.
“These election events are a highlight after many months of hard work,” said John Eastwood, a Taipei resident and a member of the Democratic National Committee. “Democrats Abroad members around the world work hard to register American voters and to assist them in getting absentee ballots, and of course this is a chance to cut loose a bit and see the results.”
Democrats Abroad's organizations around the world help hundreds of thousands of American voters each year on a nonpartisan basis through its website (www.VoteFromAbroad.org), provide information on election-related matters and events, including teleconferences and meet-ups with candidates, policy and current-events discussions, and happy hours and other celebrations.
In Taipei and Taichung, Democrats Abroad Taiwan will hold election-results watch parties on Nov. 7. In Taipei the event will start early at 9 a.m. at The Brass Monkey, at 166 Fuxing North Road. In Taichung, the event will start at 8 a.m. at the Early Bird, at 62 Chung Ming South Road.
In Kaohsiung, Democrats Abroad Taiwan will hold an election-results open-mic event at The Brickyard Beer Garden, located in Kaohsiung's Central Park.
