WTA to be held Oct. 27 to Nov. 4 at Taipei ArenaCNA TAIPEI--Japan's Ayumi Morita and Kimiko Date-Krumm, China's Peng Shuai and French player Kristina Mladenovic are scheduled to compete in the 2012 Orient Express Container (OEC) Taipei Ladies Open, which has been classified as a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Challenger Series tournament, the organizers said yesterday.
October 20, 2012, 12:06 am TWN The tournament will be held Oct. 27 to Nov. 4 at the Taipei Arena, marking a new chapter in the country's efforts to promote the sport, said the OEC Group, which is sponsoring the tournament. The OEC Taipei Ladies Open, now in its sixth year, has been upgraded to part of the WTA's challenger series that started this year, with the prize money raised to US$125,000, said the OEC Group. The WTA tour is the world's leading professional tennis competition for women, with over 2,400 players from 99 nations competing in more than 50 events annually.
