Updated Monday, September 6, 2010 11:35 am TWN, CNA Show promotes Flora Expo at Dodgers Stadium in LAThe central act was a figure depicting a legendary Taiwanese folk god known as “Santaitz (Third Prince)” performing American pop star Lady Gaga's trademark dance moves to upbeat electronic music. Thousands of baseball fans were enthralled by the show, which was the opening entertainment act at a game between the Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants and an integral part of the Dodgers' Taiwan Day promotion. The techno “Santaitz” also threw the first pitch to open the game, drawing thunderous applause from the audience. Taiwan's Tourism Bureau assisted in organizing the event to promote Taiwan tourism and attract foreign visitors to the Taipei Flora Expo which will run until April 25, 2011. Five flower fairies and the mascot of the Taipei Flora Expo “Yabi” were flown from Taipei to participate in the event. At the Dodgers' second Taiwan Day promotion so far this year, Taiwanese immigrants jam-packed the 800-seat “Taiwan area” in the stadium. Some of them wore outfits featuring Taiwan's national flag motif, while others had the word “Taiwan” printed on their arms or faces. Throughout the game, they chanted “Go Go Taiwan” and “Go Go Kuo Hong-chih.” Kuo, a Dodgers pitcher from Taiwan, served as reliever in the eighth inning after one out. He threw six pitches to level two of the Giants' sluggers, a performance that Dodgers manager Joe Torre called “terrific.” The left-hander started the season injured but has since emerged as the Dodgers' best savior. He has scored 20 wins as reliever this season. He has been so effective that Torre installed him early last month as a closer in place of Jonathan Braxton, and Kuo has since picked up eight saves.
