Taiwan medical mission on 10-day trip to Nepal

The team was led by Chen Chih-fu, leader of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) Mobile Medical Mission.

All the volunteers taking part in the mission paid NT$50,000 (US$1,593) each for air tickets, food and accommodation, as well as helping to raise US$6,000 to buy medical supplies, Chen told the CNA.

With the assistance of a Chinese language school in Kathmandu, the mission was planning to buy the medical supplies there, Chen went on, adding that only about US$4,000 had been collected so far and the members would have to pay the remaining amount out of their own pockets if no more funds were raised.

The Indian branch of Fo Guang Shan, the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan, was to help manage transport and itineraries for the volunteers during the mission.

The mission was scheduled to provide medical services in six to seven villages around Kathmandu, Chen went on.
