Taiwan's booth, shaped like an island and open on all four sides, is decorated with billboards to highlight Taiwan's abundant tourism resources and culture, Wang Chen-tai, an official at Taiwan's representative office in the EU and Belgium, said on Friday. A wide variety of brochures, maps, and souvenirs introducing Taiwan's top tourist attractions and culture were available at the booth, and a series of documentaries and videos were screened repeatedly. Taiwan-based China Airlines and tour operator VTB/Jetair also sent representatives to offer customers advice, promotional literature and information about holiday and travel planning. Belgians made 10.4 million overseas visits last year, though not many visited Taiwan. Still, with the help of a low baseline, the number of Belgian tourists traveling to Taiwan in 2008 rose 53 percent, according to statistics compiled by the representative office.
