European school celebrates Christmas spirit

The 15th Taipei European School (TES) Christmas Bazaar will take place on Nov. 28 at the school's Wenlin Road campus in Shilin District, Taipei City, combining fun and entertainment with the spirit of Christmas.

The annual fundraising event will feature a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and carol singing by some of the school's young students from the infant section, as well as a handmade Christmas tree decorated with TES students' handicrafts.

“The Christmas Bazaar is a rare opportunity to experience Christmas the European way,” notes Veronika Bobke, chairperson of the TES Parents Support Council, who explains that the festive items, such as Christmas cards, wreaths, calendars and a wide array of unique Christmas decoration pieces available at the fundraiser, are all handmade by TES parents.

The school bazaar is one of the most wonderful times of the year and one of the most exciting events of the Christmas season. Everyone looks forward to this event as it brings people together and gives us the chance to bring parents and children together around in “the spirit of Christmas,” she points out.

“The Gift of Love,” for instance, is a toy drive activity aimed at collecting TES students' toys to donate to children affected by the recent Typhoon Morakot — one of the worst typhoons to affect Taiwan in recorded history.

“The project encourages TES children to share a toy that is in good condition with another kid in Taiwan instead of buying something new,” says Pi-Chih Muller, head of the Advertising and Promotions Committee for the Christmas Bazaar.

The Christmas bazaar has also become known each year for its food court, where attendees will find a mix of homemade food and tastes from the menus of well-known restaurants and five-star hotels.

Other attractions include choir and stage performances, as well as stalls featuring popular activities such as handicraft making, nail painting and body art. Two lucky grand prize raffle winners will enjoy round-trip tickets for a trip to an Asia city. Other raffle prizes include designer handbags and electronics.
