Japanese and Taiwanese youths break world record

TAIPEI--A group of young adults from Japan and Taiwan broke the Guinness world record Tuesday for the highest number of participants in a multi-legged race.

The 50-meter race was run by 602 young people at a Taipei riverside park, creating a new world record, said Guinness World Records official adjudicator Carlos Martinez.

They followed the rules, including everybody being linked, running at least for 50 meters and nobody falling to the ground, Martinez said.

It was a difficult mission as they had to run on a muddy surface, he added.

Martinez presented a certificate to the group in recognition of their success in creating a new record.

The previous record for the most participants in a multi-legged race was created by 324 people in Japan last September, according to Martinez.
