Liu said the representatives upon their return will act as "seed teachers," holding workshops and demonstrating their U.K. findings. The white paper for international education in primary and secondary schools will be published next year to help lay a solid policy foundation, he added. In the face of the present trend of globalization, Liu went on, the MOE hopes to cultivate more talent with an international perspective and competitiveness from the elementary school years onward. He said the U.K. has demonstrated several good ways of promoting global education, such as setting up the Global Gateway (www.globalgateway.org) Web site for schools around the world to find other schools with similar interests and encouraging schools to establish partnerships with overseas schools, as well as promoting a Connecting Classrooms project to enable teachers around the world to network with one another. The MOE will also hold its first international exposition of education Nov. 24-27 in Taipei to promote international education and exchanges at primary and secondary schools, said Liu, adding that representatives from the U.K., Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam will attend the event.
