Mobile medical team to make 1st Thailand visit

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan's government-operated International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) will dispatch a mobile medical team to Chiang Rai, the northernmost province of Thailand, on Monday to provide local people with medical services and humanitarian care. It is the first visit to Thailand by an ICDF mobile medical team, the ICDF said in a statement released Friday.

The team will be made up of 10 physicians in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, dentistry, gynecology and obstetrics, as well as a pharmacist and medical care staff, the statement said.

During the planned two-week stay in Chiang Rai, the team will not only provide medical care services, but also conduct joint projects with a local hospital, discussing with local physicians cases of unusual disease infections and sharing medical expertise.

The ICDF first sent mobile medical missions overseas in 2005 to offer modern medical treatment services in remote and under developed areas. They are part of Taiwan's efforts to help diplomatic rallies in Latin America and Africa improve medical care and sanitary conditions.
