Taiwan plans to attend Central American Parliaments forum

TAIPEI--Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng is leading a delegation to the 20th anniversary meeting of the Forum of Presiding Officers of National Parliaments of Central America and the Caribbean Basin, an official of the Legislative Yuan said Sunday.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) is a permanent observer of the forum, whose members include Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Honduras and Nicaragua, said Legislative Yuan Secretariat Director Yang Meng-Tao.
This year, participants at the Aug. 25 forum will sign three resolutions regarding climate change, gender equality and dealing with the prevention of money laundering. In addition, Wang will be awarded a golden 20th anniversary commemorative medal, according to Yang.
The eight-member delegation, which consists of legislators from the ruling Kuomintang, along with opposition Democratic Progressive Party and Taiwan Solidarity Union, is scheduled to transfer planes in San Francisco and arrive in Nicaragua on Sunday, local time, according to Yang.
On its return to Taiwan, the delegation will stop in New York on Aug. 27 to meet local ethnic Chinese communities, Yang added.
