Youth camp kicks off to teach international affairs

TAIPEI -- A summer camp aimed at increasing Taiwanese young people's understanding of international affairs and the development of non-government organizations (NGOs) kicked off in Taipei Wednesday, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is organizing the program.

The five-day program is taking place at the campus of Taipei's Ming Chuan University, which has been commissioned by the ministry to arrange the activities.

It is being attended by 35 participants aged 18-35 who are interested in international affairs and the roles of NGOs, the ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

Richard Shih, secretary-general of the ministry, said at Wednesday's opening ceremony that he hopes that "the camp will help participants learn more about the role NGOs play in international affairs," according to the statement.
