Envoy to New Zealand to return for new posting

TAIPEI--Taiwan's representative to New Zealand will return home to take over as head of East Asian and Pacific affairs in the coming weeks, according to diplomatic sources.

Charng Yii-lih (常以立) will succeed Benjamin Ho as director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Ho is set to take up the post as Republic of China ambassador to Belize in mid-July.

Charng has previously been posted in Australia and India and is described as being familiar with Asia-Pacific affairs.

During his tenure as Taiwan's envoy to New Zealand, he signed an economic cooperation agreement with his then-New Zealand counterpart Stephen Payton in July 2013.
