TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Sean Lien (連勝文), son of Kuomintang Honorary Chairman Lien Chan (連戰), yesterday took a flight to attend the National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C.
When asked by the press before the flight if he would announce his intention to run for the Taipei mayoral election, Lien said in response that he would wait for a while.
Lien said that he was invited to the event last year, but failed to attend. He was invited again this year, and Lien said he was happy to be able to attend the meaningful event. Lien is on a tight schedule and will stay in the U.S. for only one day.
Lien may meet with King Pu-tsung (金溥聰), Taiwan's chief representative to the U.S. as the head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, D.C. King is widely regarded as the most important aide to President Ma Ying-jeou.
Ma paid a visit to Lien's family during the Chinese New Year. It was reported in the media that Sean Lien purposely avoided Ma's visit, a rumor that Lien denied yesterday.
