Firm donates solar power kits to storm-hit Philippines

MANILA--A Taiwanese solar power company has recently donated solar-powered generators to the Philippines for use in regions devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in November, Taiwan's representative office in the Southeast Asian country said yesterday.

General Energy Solutions Inc. (GES) handed over the 10 portable solar power kits to Philippine Energy Secretary Carlos Petilla through the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc., the representative office said in a statement.

GES CEO David Su, who went to Manila to deliver the equipment, said the donation is just the beginning and that the company is ready to supply more.

Central regions of the Philippines are still recovering from the damage caused by Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the country Nov. 8 and flattened several towns and cities in its path.
