The goal seems reasonable, as nearly 350,000 Taiwanese visited Thailand between January and August this year, an 80 percent year-on-year increase, according to Taiwan's Tourism Bureau.
Annual visits to Thailand by Taiwanese tourists could continue to grow by 4 percent to 510,000 by the end of 2014, when the Southeast Asian country projects a total of 28 million overseas tourists, said Suraphon Svetasreni, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Thailand has traditionally been one of the most popular destinations for Taiwanese travelers, and Svetasreni said his country has been promoting more diverse and in-depth travel options to expand the local market base.
