Political reform, however, will not be easy on the mainland because to the Chinese government, ensuring its grip on power is a more important matter, said David J. Lorenzo, an associate professor at the College of International Affairs of Taiwan's National Chengchi University.
Delivering a speech on whether Taiwan's model of democratization will work for China at the Overseas Press Club in New York, Lorenzo noted that Taiwan's democratic development is profoundly influenced by the political thought of Sun Yat-sen, who believed that the Western system of democracy should be properly adjusted to suit China.
