The conference, jointly organized by the Taipei Forum Foundation and the U.S.-based Brookings Institution, will feature a keynote speech by former Taiwanese Vice President Vincent Siew. Also featured will be a ceremony to celebrate the establishment of the Chen-Fu and Cecilia Yen Koo Chair in Taiwan Studies, a program under the Brookings Institution.
The chair is sponsored by Cecilia Yen Koo, widow of former Straits Exchange Foundation Chairman Koo Chen-fu, and will become the first research platform for in-depth studies on Taiwan's political and economic situation at any Washington-based think tank, according to the Taipei Forum Foundation.
Richard Bush, the director of the Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies under the Brookings Institution, has been invited to be the first chair holder, the foundation said. He will also preside over Thursday's event.
