US Department of State economic official to visit
CNATAIPEI--An economic official at the U.S. Department of State will soon visit Taiwan for an event in Taipei aimed at promoting business links between Asian start-up companies and global firms, according to the event organizers.

Lorraine Hariton, a special representative for commercial and business affairs at the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, will give a speech at the APEC Start-Up Accelerator Leadership Summit 2013, slated for Aug. 13-14.
The two-day event is an exclusive, invitation-only platform for start-ups throughout the Asia-Pacific region to form business relationships with key global players in the Silicon Valley and throughout the world, the event's official website said.
Thirty startups and 200 top executives and officials from the APEC region have been invited to the event.
Other speakers will include Steve Chen, co-founder of Youtube; Jeff Hoffman, co-founder of Priceline USA; Jonathan Ortmans, president of Global Entrepreneurship Week; and Stan Shih, chairman of Acer Group, according to the website.
