Taiwan's envoy visits new Panama attorney-generalCNA TAIPEI--Republic of China Ambassador to Panama Diego Chou exchanged views Tuesday with Panama's new attorney-general, Ana Isabel Belfon Vejas, on bilateral relations and future bilateral cooperation.
February 8, 2013, 4:16 pm TWN He noted that the R.O.C. has since its founding in 1911 maintained official diplomatic relations with Panama and that the judicial agencies in both countries have traditionally had close exchanges. He expressed hope that both sides can continue to maintain friendly and cooperative relations and step up exchanges on handling criminal cases. He also inquired about the progress of an investigation into a case involving five ethnic Chinese youths who were abducted and murdered in Panama in October 2011. Belfon said that her agency is treating the case as an important matter and will report any information it receives to the embassy. She also said that the agency is promoting an anti-corruption campaign and that she hopes to learn from Taiwan's experience in upgrading efficiency.
