US congressional delegation to arrive tomorrow

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A U.S. congressional delegation led by Representative Edward R. Royce, chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan tomorrow for a three-day trip, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announced yesterday.

This is Royce's first overseas trip since becoming chairman of the committee, the AIT said in a released statement. It is part of a larger visit for the group to East Asia.

While in Taiwan, the delegation will meet with senior local leaders to discuss U.S.-Taiwan relations, trade and other significant issues, it added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said yesterday that the 20-man U.S. delegation's upcoming trip further exemplifies the ever closer bilateral ties between Taipei and Washington.

Royce's scheduled visit showcases U.S. Congress's long-term support for and friendship with the Republic of China, MOFA said in a separate statement.

During the three-day tour, the delegation will meet with President Ma Ying-jeou, and pay a visit to the MOFA and the Legislative Yuan as well as other government units, it said.

Royce's delegation is the third U.S. congressional delegation to visit Taipei this year, it added.
