Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng to discuss TIFA with US Congress
CNALOS ANGELES--Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng said Saturday that he will urge the U.S. Congress to help push for resumption of trade talks between Taiwan and the United States when he meets with American lawmakers during a four-day trip to Washington.

Wang arrived in Los Angeles around noon with a Taiwanese delegation that included several other legislators before heading for Washington, D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President Barack Obama.
The Taiwan delegation is the only one from a country that does not have formal diplomatic ties with the U.S. to be attending the ceremony, the result of hard work by Taiwan's government and the Legislative Yuan, Wang said.
In addition to attending the ceremony on behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou, Wang said he will also meet with American senators and representatives and ask them to help expedite the resumption of talks under the bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
Although discussions have already been held on resuming TIFA negotiations, Wang said he hoped the process could be accelerated because the TIFA platform is highly important to bilateral investment and economic cooperation.
