TAIPEI--A Taiwanese firm presented a visiting Turkish parliamentarian Wednesday with a set of Barbie dolls designed especially for her to promote bilateral ties and recognize her efforts in fighting for human rights.
The staff of the New Taipei-based Meining Workshop made the two customized dolls based on Safak Pavey's physical appearance and her favorite dresses, said Ku Tsui-e, the workshop's executive chairwoman.
Pavey, who is leading a five-member delegation on an Oct. 14-19 visit, is a human rights activist who also serves as a member of the U.N. Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She lost an arm and a leg in an accident while studying in Switzerland.
