Cross-strait Diaoyutai tie-up worries US: NSBThe China Post news staff The U.S. government is worried by the possibility of Taiwan teaming up with China against Japan over the Diaoyutais dispute, Taipei's top intelligence official has disclosed.
September 29, 2012, 12:01 am TWN Tsai Teh-sheng, head of the National Security Bureau (NSB), said the United States has on several occasions conveyed such a concern to Taiwan, which has repeatedly stressed that it will not join forces with China over the Diaoyutais row. Tsai told lawmakers Thursday that the United States has been a key factor behind Japan's aggressiveness in handling the dispute, but Washington should be able to understand Taipei's stance. Taiwan and Japan have maintained high-level channels for dialogue, Tsai said. Through these channels, both sides have clearly stated their stances and they know each other's bottom line, he added. Both sides have a consensus on avoiding “conflicts,” but that does not mean that they have been acting according to a script they have co-written, the intelligence official said.
