Japan ties to stay strong as PM changes: MOFANoda, 54, won the Democratic Party of Japan leadership race Monday, putting him on track to become Japan's sixth prime minister in five years. Foreign Ministry spokesman James Chang said Japan is a democratic nation that maintains a consistent foreign policy. “Based on a stable foundation, Taiwan and Japan are expected to continue their exchanges cordially,” Chang said. Ruling Kuomintang Legislator Lee Hung-chun, who heads a Taiwan-Japan parliamentary friendship group, said he expected no major changes in Taiwan-Japan relations after Noda became Japan's next prime minister. “Right now, bilateral ties between Taiwan and Japan are at their best ever,” Lee said. | |||||||||||||
