Premier Wu returns from tour of Burkina Faso

TAIPEI -- Premier Wu Den-yih returned to Taipei Saturday after finishing a tour of Burkina Faso, his first visit to the West African ally as premier.

Wu was greeted by his deputy Sean Chen at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport upon his arrival.

Wu left Taiwan Dec. 18 to attend the Dec. 20 inauguration of President Blaise Compaore for a new term on behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou.

Wu was the first Republic of China premier to visit Burkina Faso since the two countries resumed diplomatic relations in 1994.

During his stay, he also hosted the completion ceremony for a Taiwan-funded vocational training center, visited a new hospital constructed with a loan from a Taiwanese bank, and inspected a Taiwan-initiated solar street lamp construction program.
