Known for her strong advocacy for child welfare, Chow dedicates much of her time caring for disadvantaged children in Taiwan and other parts of the world. Chow and her eldest daughter, Lesley Ma, were in Santo Domingo on the last leg of a five-day humanitarian trip to the Dominican Republic and Haiti, both staunch allies of Taiwan. She is the first Republic of China first lady to visit both countries and the visit was also her first overseas humanitarian trip since Ma Ying-jeou became president in May 2008. The students, ranging from young children to teenagers, attend the music school free of charge. Chow was traveling in her capacity as honorary president of the Red Cross Society of the ROC and as the “love ambassador” of World Vision Taiwan. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%.
