Updated Friday, April 30, 2010 10:26 am TWN, The China Post news staff Taiwan's Canada envoy David Lee gets high praiseThe gazette, Embassy, ranked U.S. ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson, as the most influential, while selecting the British ambassador, Anthony Cary, as the third most influential. Taiwan does not have diplomatic ties with Canada and maintains a representative office in Ottawa. Lee's selection as the second most influential was impressive, as he came ahead of Cary, who represents the United Kingdom, with which Canada shares the same head of state and monarch. Jacobson's selection as the most influential came as no surprise, as the United States is Canada's neighbor in the south, and ties between both nations are close. As for China's ambassador to Canada, Lan Lijun, he was voted the “most discreet” ambassador, the publication said. Meanwhile, Taiwan's representative office in Canada also won another honor — for providing the “best receptions,” the paper said. The embassies that provided the second and third best receptions were those of Mexico and Great Britain, respectively, the paper said. The Embassy publication provides commentaries on global events and Canada's foreign policies, and reports on what ambassadors to the country have been doing. The publication began polling embassies in Canada in 2007 and invites foreign dignitaries to participate in the polls. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
