Media reported noted that Obama will also be in Guam on the same day, sparking speculation that the two leaders might meet. “No, no,” Ma said briefly in a public event in response to the speculation. He said that he will be in Guam at a different time of that day from Obama. Foreign Ministry spokesman Chen Ming-cheng said the president has made four overseas trips, during which he stopped over on U.S. soil eight times on a basis of mutual trust. Ma is making a “pure stop-over” in Guam en-route to the South Pacific, said Chen, asking the public not to make any speculation. The president is expected to depart on March 21 for a trip that will bring him to the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Nauru, the Solomon Islands and Palau.
