Taiwan helps Saint Lucia build national tennis center

WASHINGTON -- Taiwan is helping Saint Lucia, one of its 23 allied countries, build a national tennis center to promote the sport in the Caribbean nation.

Tom Chou, the Taiwanese Ambassador to Saint Lucia, said in a press release obtained in Washington, that helping Saint Lucia build the center will help tennis become a national sport, as well as promote an athletic spirit and lifestyle in the country. Chou was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony.

The tennis center, which will cost US$1.53 million to build, will contain six world-class tennis courts. The main court will have a seating capacity of 320 people and will be equipped with TV broadcasting facilities.

The tennis center is expected to open in August, said Chou.

Addressing the ceremony, Lenard Montoute, Minister of Youth and Sports of Saint Lucia, expressed his country's gratitude to Taiwan for its assistance in providing technologies and facilities.
